Help: Audio Video Question

Hello Everyone,

I am working on a business plan to address a need at my college. I plan to create a media company that will record classes taught at the university (some of the bigger ones) and upload them to a website. The videos of the classes will be available to the students for a fee. The problem is that I know absolutly nothing about video equiptment and I would like to post a question to this forum about any ideas of what kind of video cameras will I need. The equiptment must meet the below requirments:

-will be set up about in the back of the lecture hall
-must have decent audio
-must be able to save video types in to a uploadable format
-price would most likely be a issue

How can this work and what equiptment do you guys think I would need. I have the concept in my head but not the finer details.

Thanks

Corey

All you need is a camcorder from Best Buy, or Fry's.

Then add an aftermarket mic, so you get good quality.

You will convert the video into a compressed format from the camcorder on your computer, and then upload that to the web.

One word of advice, make sure this is cool (ie legal) with the University, and the professor. Seems like they would both have rights, and at the very least would have to sign a release for you to charge for the video.

Now if the video was free, and the revenue came from PPC/ advertising, it might be a little less hairy.

Hope that helps.

It is a copyright issue. I will have to get permission but I need to get my plan together before I can approch the university. I work for the school and have relationships with some of the decision makers so I am hoping against hope that I can get approval. This business would benifit the students and staff by increasing GPA, enabling increased enrollment by enabling those with hectic schedules to enroll in class that they won't always be able to meet, and by providing a saftey net when you just cant make it to class sometimes.

I came up with the idea after this semester because I have a medical condition that caused me to miss a few days of class because of dr appts and just in too much pain. I am a honor student and was asked by my accounting teacher to run study groups and I got A's on all the test in this class. Neverless, I was docked participations points even after spending all the extra time doing study groups. At my school if you miss class the system is very unforgiving. I have decided to create a service that will allow students to view the lecture even if they cannot make the schedule lecture in person. My school may or may not go for it so the best I can do is get all my ducks in row and try to make a compelling argument.
