    He who hesitates is lost

Hi my name is Jordan. I have an idea that would compliment an already huge business. I can't really go to in depth because I don't want to just share it with everyone. But for example, lets say I have an idea that would be used in collaboration with Google or Myspace, off of Google's or Myspace's website. How would I go about discussing this idea with a huge company like that? Would I need some sort patent or legal protection just so my idea isn't stolen by them? Is there an attorney or representative that could do the bargaining for me? I obviously am clueless so please give me any information possible. Thank You.

Yes, you need an attorney, and maybe some "people" to back you up, get contacts with myspace, etc, or you can call or go to the company office

Thanks for the advice, but do you know what kind of an attorney is needed? Just one to get a patent? Or could I actually find an attorney, with "big company" experience, to handle all of the bargaining done?

i don't want to be negative, but without some actual foundation to your ideas and something in place i wouldn't even bother.

You can't just present an idea to them...because they would just nick it, you can't protect thoughts and visions. With such a huge corporation they are likely to steal your idea if they like it...and in fact...with all the brain power they have probably change it slightly and improve it.

To stand any chance you need to put in some work and actually have something on paper - something workable to show. You would have to be very careful about how much info you made available too.

Maybe people have other ideas? even if you have got a brilliant idea which is actually of some interest to them..i think you would/will have a hard time getting anywhere with it.

Saying that, im sure there will be plenty of people who disagree with me

    Best of luck either way!

Is there no way around it by ensuring both parties sign a confidentiality agreement?

    Cheers,

You can not patent an idea. A Confidentiality Agreement is only worth the money you have to defend it in court. This is a tough situation to be in. You need to actually make a working product before you'll have any chance of protecting your idea.
