Have you tried network marketing? Need opinion.

I currrently don't have a good business idea yet to build another business and am looking into different network marketing opportunities for now (all are legit). I would like to hear from anyone who has been successful in either sales or business ownership (in any industry) who has also tried network marketing. Can you share your experience? I would like to know what to expect realistically, and what it takes to succeed, especially now that the economy is a little different from a few years ago. You can also recommand companies to me by private message if you want. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Somethingcreative,

In my experience Network Marketing only works for very few, by far the majority that join never make their joining fee back.

It's not something tyhat works for the masses although they all work their promises on the masses i.e. get 3 people to sign up, they all get 3 each and after a few levels you've got 100's.

The problem is theirs not enough people in the world for the maths to work.

One cent doubled every day for a month is more than $1,000,000.... try it

    Cheers

Hey 'somethingcreative.' I think I can offer you a balanced perspective.

First off, I have 6 years experience in network marketing, 7 years experience working in commercial real estate and consulting helping businesses get started and I have grown up in a 'family business' (aka a 'traditional business') in the Power Sports industry (think snowmobiles, jet ski's, boats, ATV's, etc.) All of this is experience adds up to a good 20 years of sales experience. I'm 35.

I see most 'traditional' businesses having a very difficult time in today's economy. But at the same time, network marketing is exploding. Especially in the Asian countries.

I look at some of the people I've done consulting with, the monthly rent alone to lease space in a building can be thousands of dollars. The network marketing business that I have only cost a few hundred.

But more to your question: What you really have to understand is that network marketing is a real business but one that is a "system" that you really need to understand. Your role is not to just sell products. Your role is to build a team that recommends the products to others, but also continues to grow the team as well. Think of it like a lot of people doing a little bit each.

I like to keep things simple so I will break network marketing down to the most basic presentation that I share with others looking into the business. There's just 3 things that you will be doing: Using the products, recommending the products and enrolling other people to do the same.

Using the products is simply that. For me and the company I'm with, I simply replaced what I was buying at the grocery store and the the pharmacy's and health food stores with the products my company markets every single month. You will note that most network marketing companies have what's called "autoship" where you get your monthly order delivered every month. This is important because as you build a team of your own, you want them consuming the product every month because that's how you get paid every month and create the 'residual income.'

Recommending the products is all about you sharing your positive experiences and results with others who may be interested in them too. It's not about 'selling.' I say that because I don't want you to think that you have to go throw your products in a case and walk the streets. It's just like recommending a good movie or a good restaurant and happens more natural in a conversation with someone. For me, when someone says they are looking to lose weight or are looking to feel better, I just give them a catalog of the products and say "these work very well for me and they may work for you too!" That's it.

Enrolling other people is where you will be spending most of your time and efforts as this is what makes you 'financially' successful. The enrolling 'process' breaks down to three things as well: Inviting, Presenting and Training. You 'invite' people to look at your business, then a third-party provides a presentation (this could be a meeting, dvd, online presentation, etc.) Then if they are interested, you enroll them and train them. Most good legit companies have full online training already in place.

That's the business! It's really simple in fact. How to become successful at it is to stay CONSISTENT and continue to do the main things that I identified above. Over and over and over again until you reach your goals. Network Marketing will test you, there's no doubt. That is because it will reveal your weaknesses and you will have to make personal development a big part of your life as well. But it's soooo worth it because not only can you reach your financial dreams, you come out the other side a totally developed person.

Most people quit though. They don't stick around long enough for the magic of the compounding effect of the business to kick in. They expect to be millionaires over night and think they don't have to put in much efforts. So they quit and then come on forums like this and bash network marketing because they didn't succeed at it. So be careful who you listen to!

Don't worry about the outside economy so much. Network Marketing is being much more accepted these days BECAUSE of the downturn in the economy. So in my opinion, it's the best time to get involved.

If you have realistic expectations and are consistent, network marketing can be one of the best decisions you can make. Again though, make sure you become involved with a good company. And certainly not one that is "ground floor!" That's one of the biggest rookie mistakes I see.

    Hope this helped!

    Cheers!
