I was always under the impression that apple heavily regulated who sells their products. I believe their contracts with distributors either stipulate who they can resell to, or is with large retail outlets directly. This is the reason an individual can not source distributors for hot ticket items like ipod, xbox, gucci, etc to resell. The companies that make these products want to maintain the pricing on the products and not have a flooded marketplace. Most of the time you see small independent retailers selling xbox's for example, they may pick them up at costco and resell them for no profit, but make money on the accessories they source from distributors. I am not sure if this is the same with iphones, but I would assume so given apples stance on their other products.
