    has this idea been done?

I though of this because i am going to run some photography contests and wanted to make sure people are not just stealing other pieces of work off the internet. It is a website that you can input a picture or video and then the site searches for similar pictures video and checks to see if the item is original or not. Kind of a basic idea , but i wanted to see if this kind of technology would be possible and if it has been done yet? I am not trying to start this but thought it was a good idea. what do you all think???

How do you plan on making money from it?
How will the software recognize the picture, if it's from the title of the captures, how do you know people will label them identically to any pre-existing captures?
Forgive me for saying but, if i understand the articulation from the above post your market is people who enter photography contests, that's a small market so you wouldn't make much from traffic. How else would you receive revenue assuming of course the software required would work?

Not true. First i am not trying to develop this technology (was just a thought).. Second, there could be a huge market for this type of tech. For anyone that hold rights to logos, pictures videos etc. they can use it to see if their material is being misrepresented or stolen. photographers, video companies, even the average designer could use it to see if their material is similar to other peoples stuff. Its basically a new type of search engine....
Making money is advertising... for instance twitter, i think that its stupid, its basically just your facebook status, however they make plenty of money.

Its hard to determine. Images can be enhanced or manipulated. How you track its original source?

    Hey again.

I hope my post didn't offend you but i think perhaps you didn't fully grasp what i was saying. All of your idea bases around the technology of matching a used image with one that already exists.

As someone has said you can use this with essays. Essays use words so it is extremely easy to track, they are easily quantifiable in the sense they are absolute.

Pictures however use pixels, It is not impossible, but i don't think you realize how ridiculously difficult this would be and totally opportunity cost inefficient.

I recall a Danish software company is currently researching in how to develop a way to make search engines identify different kinds of identities in pictures.

For example - if you have a picture of a certain person and you are about to do some research, this software will then be able to search the internet for any matching faces etc.

Sounds kind of incredible if you ask me - Big brother is certainly watching you, you would be tempted to say.
However, I am not too sure what either the company is called or the project. Think it should provide a public search function at Google, and another version for governments.

Besides from that, I just realized that my answer in this post is completely worthless to you and to this topic.
Your mind is like a parachute - if it isn't open, it doesn't work
