Has there ever been a YE community joint venture of some sort?

Has there ever been a company started up by a substantial number of members from the community?

Not that I am aware of but anything is possible. However the idea isn't so sound when you think about it. Typically even with companies that have multiple founders, they come together because they know each other well enough to know the work synergy. Bringing in a random pool of people to try and scale something can be difficult. There could be potential conflicts in ideas, ways to execute, and who's to say who gets the right to decide what gets done and what doesn't.

Its not impossible, just from a glance it sounds more like a hassle than working in a selectively small group and scaling out from there.

A couple people have tried but none of the "joint ventures" has ever gone anywhere.

I can see the amount of potential trouble it could cause. Hmmm....

im sure a joint venture could work that includes all YE members. The best type of startup would be a web based one.

All the members could vote on what they would like to see feature wise, design etc. And a core team of developers and entrepreneurs could make it happen.

If it failed - it doesn't matter as it would be a great experiment in crowdsourcing.

Plus it has some huge advantages like a whole community of people willing to promote the startup. Funding would also be easy - just request $10 from every person who wants to be able to vote and then bootstrap the entire app.

In January 2003, a group of very determined people at the Tony Robbins forum formed mastermind group, scheduled to start in January 2004.

People applied, were screened for suitability, they formed a website that members can log into.

Last I heard, they made money in property and finances.
    Let's make some money.

Mastermind groups aren't typically business partners in any way. They generally meet or hold conferences to network and share ideas and experiences rather than operate a business as a whole together.
