Guinea Pig #2 -- Small Business

    Hey all,

As I posted in the "Cash Gifting Guinea Pig" thread, I am starting my small business blog. I've decided to begin an actual blog this time, located at: The Business Addict

in case it auto-parses the link - it is: bizaddict blogspot com << replace the spaces with periods.

I've already added my first article posting. I've never blogged before, so this should be interesting. It'll be easier to read rather than coming to this thread to check it out. Let me know your thoughts.

    Jay

    Fanatik,
I liked the blog and the new idea that you have. May I suggest taking out the part about the designer dropping it I too am new at making blogs, and it does take some practice. You are on the right path, as blogs are now essential for today's businesses. I wish you the best of luck

Thanks for the feedback - I appreciate it. I will edit the post shortly. It's a heck of a learning curve to get Drupal to act like I need it to! haha. It would've been nice if that developer would've been on top of his stuff, but such is life

Yeah, as the old saying goes..."If you want something done right, do it yourself!"

I've updated my blog with a couple of posts: bizaddict.blogspot.com

I'm really learning the intricacies of Drupal -- it's very flexible, but with that flexibility comes A LOT of learning to get those things to come together. I contacted a web dev today to see about getting this thing streamlined and produced quicker. We'll see!

Out of curiosity Fanatik, what made you go with Drupal over wordpress for your blog. The learning curve with wordpress is practically non-existent.

For the blog, I'm using Blogspot.com by google. For my site, I'm using Drupal. The reason for using Drupal for the site is because Drupal seems like it's got more portability than most other CMS' (I know this is highly debatable).

From the days when I used to design sites with FrontPage and Dreamweaver, I like having everything online and easily accessible from anywhere. Wordpress seemed more like a news/blog CMS than a real functional and portable Drupal-like CMS.

With the added plugins and modules for Drupal, they add more of a learning curve - but it's what is needed to get a polished product rather than cutting corners.

Man this is cool but I really think you should get off of blogspot and host it yourself. You can't control the content and when you decide to move from Blogspot in the future (which you will if you see some success with your blog) you're going to find out that they control all of your content.
