    Graduate jobs in trading

    Hi

I'm looking at graduate jobs for next year. Whilst my long term aim is to be a successful entrepreneur I realise that I will need to be working for a while first to save money to fund my own business and find a place to live etc. I have a growing interest in financial markets and I have recently found a job offer in New York with a company called First New York. It says that they have a graduate training programe described as:

'FNY offers a comprehensive 18-24 month training program for highly motivated people with strong educational backgrounds and a passion for the markets.

Upon graduation from the training program, trainees will be given the opportunity to trade for the firm.

In order to be accepted into the training program you must have a 4-year college degree and submit a transcript which reflects a G.P.A of 3.0 or higher.'

I feel that this could suit me well so I'll at least apply but my concerns are that I haven't done any trading before because I dont know enough about the markets and if I was to trade now, I'd be throwing my money away. So I'm reading up on it in my spare time to gain more knowledge. Will programes like this take beginners and train them up or do they expect you to know lots already? It says a 'passion for markets' and I am interested in them and I frequently check how companies are performing but my lack of experience concerns me.

I really like the idea of moving abroad from the UK for a few years so does anyone know of any other graduate job offers in New York they could recommend or in any other locations? Does anyone have any experiences of jobs like this they could share? As at the moment I know little about the realities.

I am not trying to be cynical, but I doubt you will get the job. I know people with MBAs and CFAs who have been trading all kinds of securities every day for years that don't get in.

    Good luck though.
