right off the top I would say google for most things because it's cheaper, but that depends on your particular market. I would test them both with something and see if overture could possibly beat google either in traffic or quality and then go from there.
Neither one is so expensive you can't try both

I liked Overture better. It got me better results, quality visitors rather than Google which tends to just bring lots of traffic.

Overture is known for more qualified traffic and a higher conversion rate, and is resultantly more expensive. Keywords such as hosting and lawyers can run into the $10/click range on overture.
Google does have cheaper bids but brings more traffic and a lower conversion. Like the poster mentioned above, test both and see. Also don't discount the smaller engines such as findwhat.com, searchfeed.com, or kanoodle.com which can be a real goldmine for some categories because of their low ppc bids but usually don't have as good conversion rates as google or overture.

Hello Hudson,
Neither one offers you the frequency of demand on the search engines for specific keywords as well as the supply of existing web sites that can be found through the search engines that offer content containing the specific keyword. I used to use both adwords and overture to find the best keywords, but then realized that the results were not accurate and not useful without the supply numbers!
I used a service through Web Success Solutions called the kickstart keyword analysis and assessment which gave me a complete keyword list of over 100 profitable keywords that were related to my topic. They even had the list divided into a sitemap for me so that I could begin creating my web site in the structure they had presented it for me, with over 20 content pages. They also gave me some awesome tips of how to use the keywords effectively within my content in order to attract the search engines and get listed and attract targeted traffic.
I’ve had great success with this, and am getting listed in the search engines for my specific keywords and my traffic is highly targeted and I’m actually making sales!
Hope this helps,
Andrew
