You should probably start by offering products that will target a general audience. Also, promote your business by giving out promotional tools like business cards, flyers or brochures. They will help you attract customers faster.

Do some research on google about what are some good pastries. Off the bat i think puff pastries would sell since they are delicous everyone likes those. Cupcakes always sell. Cakes are always in demand.

Wow, what a great thread! You have lots of support and advice, Nina!

I think gaining experience is definitely the best course of action. It's how you learn the ropes from the ground up and find what works for you and what doesn't. It also helps you find out what your strengths and weaknesses are...very important to know before you open up your own business. It's the reason why a Wendy's franchise owner has to start at the bottom..you need to learn the business and know every aspect of it.

You mentioned in an earlier post looking for equipment at reasonable prices. My fav place to go...restaurant auctions. Look in your local classifieds under auctions/sales. These are truly the best place to find what you need at a fraction of the cost. If you've never been to one, be sure to check one out before you need equipment so you will know what to expect and how it works. They are fun!

Keep up the good work...sounds like you are thinking things through and not just jumping in
