    Goal Planning

Do any of you think its important to write down your goals(personal and business) and put them up somewhere so that you can be constantly reminded of them?

I think before anyone delves into a business they should write down and post up very clear goals as to what they want to do. What am going to do is put up two sets of goals for myself. I am going to have one that has all my broad goals about what i wish to accomplish in life and with my business. The second one will be a list of goals that i want to achieve on a weekly basis so that i can continue to move toward my life goals.

How do you make sure that you accomplish everything you set out to do?

i would say by think alot about it in a positive way and try come up with new ideas all the time to try get there faster. and work in it !

and yes i think its a really good helper to write down both short time goals and long time. like 3 months goal. 1 year goal and 5 year goal.

as you write them down and read them you think of them and that helps to find a new and often better ways to achive them.

yah we do goal setting with our advisory board every month
and I do goal setting twice a week with my cofounder
goals are important. I mean, how else you gonna do a startup? what, visualize it?

look.. the thing with goals is that you've gotta be accountable. you can't just "write down and post up very clear goals" and hope for a change. the goals for your life have to be set by another person who is gonna kick your ass if you're not making progress (i.e. your mentor, employer, mother, cofounder, coach or whatever)

i've tried writing down my own goals, but it doesn't work. what works is when other people write the goals for you (with or without your input). so really, the trick with goal setting is being proactive enough to get some supervision.

I agree with Akula. If I set my own goals, I often find it hard to stay on track when other seemingly-more-important issues present themselves. Beginning the publishing company, my business partner and I sat down and created goals and a timeline for meeting those goals. Now, I don't have a choice but to hit them, because I am letting someone else down who is counting on me if I don't reach them. If nothing else, get a friend and get your goals down together, and help each other with them, kind of like a workout partner - he helps you when you're having trouble and you help him when he's having trouble.

That is probably the best goal advice you can get. No point setting good goals if you don't have some one making sure you are staying on track to achieve them

I absolutely think it is necessary! I make it a habit to make a poster collage (as childish it may sound), that has everything I want out of my life, and hang it up right infront of my desk at work. It helps me stay focused on those days when your brain is just not into it that day.
