    Getting into the game

    Hello everyone,

I'm interested in starting a web based business using my knowledge of aviation and transportation. I know what I am going to do I just need to know how to pull it off, here are some problems.

I am currently a minor (16) How do I go about setting up a corp, and which should I use? I see things like C corp and S corp but I don't want to jump head first into either of these without some knowledge on the two.

Alot of money will need to change hands quickly going Customers ---> Me ---> Suppliers & Contractors, what is the best method of accomplishing this?

How exactly will I be paying taxes and what kind of documentation is needed to stay legal.

Again I don't claim to be any kind of business guru but my knowledge in aviation is well beyond my years, and won't have any problems in the product sector. So any business advice is good business advice and I'm all up for hearing it.

    Thanks,

    Drew

If your going to be handling large amounts of money, I'm assuming that this business will be a bit larger then the average 16 year olds nickle & dime site. You may want to consult a lawyer if you are serious about this. They will also be able to help you with the tax concerns and what not.

If you don't have the budget for this, and can't/won't be able to get that initial capital, then I'd buckle down and start researching starting new businesses in your area. (Check your library / book store for some great start up guides to get you going).

My expertise is in building web applications, so feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about that area.

    Best of Luck

    Hey Drew

I would suggest that, as a start, you maybe have a look at Ed Dale's Thirty Day Challenge - it is a free e-course that will take you step by step through setting up a site, and using social media to help you market. It will also help you research the phrases that people are using to search for information that you can provide. So it is a great web marketing training course.

As for business ... try going to a local small business assistance office for some help, guidance and mentoring. They can help take you step by step through the process.

When someone charters a private jet, It leaves it's home base to travel to pick up the customer, fly the customers flight then it returns to it's home base and repeats on the customer's returning flight. I will be selling the dead-leg (empty) flights.

I have the initial capital but I don't know what to do on the taxes and the fact that I'm a minor side of things.

    thanks for the replys,

    Drew

Do you have the connections to be selling the dead leg? Do you have an account with a charter company? I see a lot of terrible ideas on this site... but this is a very good one. The charter flight industry has seen tremendous growth since 2001. I've navigated the start-up process and built a million dollar consulting company. If you want to chat more send me a pm with your e-mail address.

Yes, I did consulting for mega yacht builders and explorer yacht refitters on fitting heliports and operating helicopters. I made about $1,000 doing it and that's what I have for this. I have connections to about two dozen 'mom and pop' if you will charter outfits across the US, Canada, Middle east and Australia.
Do you do aviation consulting? Maybe we have met before.

    Thanks,

    Drew

I do government and non-profit consulting. I have an extensive sales back ground and I've worked in the Avionics Field (US Marines). I'm interested in your idea from a business stand point. I'm not looking to own any part of your business.... just offering my advice to help you get started.

IM me about your idea, I would love to hear it. I currently fly a Citation VI, and have designed four aviation companies including a management program. Unfortunately I can't say any of them are making money right now, but I digress.

Your desire to know more about C corp and S corp is wise. I need to read more on the subjects. My expertise is more in company design and aircraft operation. I'm not sure if you have a method or just the product, so forgive me if I am going down the wrong road.

Anyway, I also have experience flying the Falcon 10, Citation II, Lear 26,35, and 55, and King Air 90 and 200. If this interests you, IM me.
