Getting advertisers

Hello All
When getting advertisers for websites , do people here contact companies who you think would want to advertise or wait till people contact you ? Anyother way of getting advertisers to advertise on your site ( with out using adsense)

i find its best to use forums such as this one...
many people around here are always interesed in advertising there site or swaping advertising and such...

post another forums stating your price and for what and give details on how much traffic you get.

or say what requirments you want to have a link exchange
