    Generating Ideas for Servicing

    Hi all,

So for quite some time now I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out a good servicing industry to get into.

I have been trying to brainstorm services people need and aren't just flavor of the month type deals. I am very new in regards to setting everything up, but I have the drive and ambition. As far as ideas are going, I have come up with a couple areas I think could work, but would like some advice/opinions.

    Child Care (Day care maybe)
    Elder Care (Nursing Home?)
Perhaps somekind of business security (Maybe something like Securitas)
    Laundromat

One of my best skills is use with excel, I was trying to figure out something I could do with creating spreadsheets/reconciliations for people, but it seemed like something to general/easy to do.

I want to create something that i can really be involved in and mold into a success. I currently am in the accounting group for one of the major banks in Buffalo, NY. I have an A.S. in Business and am actually going back to school for IT in the fall. I have strong computer skills and strong accounting skills.

At this junction I don't really know anyone who I could look to for advice, so I am just trying to find my niche and jumping in, becoming fully educated on the area ofcourse.

Any advice/insight would be greatly apprecicated.

    Thanks

    try Scores

    hi sjwings3249,

A good place to ask advice for start-up is S.C.O.R.E.S. google them for your local branch it is free advise from entrepenures in all feilds that help with start-ups. Try them and they should set you in the right direction.

Start by examining what your hobbies are. Think about which of those above businesses would make you most happy. There is no guarantee that you will find a choice by doing this.. but it cant hurt.

Once you have narrowed it down to 2-3 choices you need to write a business plan for each. Start to really look at what you would need to do to be successful. Compare your plans to find which can make you the most money...

Thanks for the advice thus far.

I am trying to find some entreneur groups in Buffalo, NY so that maybe I can make some connections and also just to talk shop. At this point its just me and my mind going over everything and I think it would be to my advantage to seek some like-minded people to discuss ideas with.

Once I can focus in on an area, I have a feeling the road will get much easier for me. I am the type that has trouble figuring out the right path, but once on that road has no problem getting where I need to go.

While on lunch the idea popped into my head about another item to check into. Rent-to-own type business seems like it could be something that interests me.

SCORE generally isn't a resource for helping someone decide what business to start. They can be excellent at helping with specific questions, but they aren't general consultants that should be just asked any question that comes to mind. I would only recommend turning to SCORE for specific business advice, once you have determined the business you would like to enter.

Start a lawn service company. However, gas prices are getting pretty high so you shouldn't charge cheaply.
