Generating ideas for a new start-up

Question for the group: For those that own and operate a business, how did you come up with the idea?

I usually derive my ideas from real-life experiences and needs.

Having owned brick and mortar and Internet businesses I knew firsthand there was a dire need for a new, attainable funding source. Having seen people get funded online for various causes by posting a description of their situation and asking for funds, I thought that could work for small business owners. I expanded on the idea and developed Preneuraholics.com (see below). It just launced a few days ago.

Interesting enough the idea came up while in a rune reading. I had wanted to open a restaurant but was apprehensive about the risk, and she came up with the idea of a juice bar!
