In 5 years, I don't think advertising will look much different than it does now. But I think the trend will be to develop internet advertising, as other print forms of advertising are about as far alone as they are gonna get. I've seen examples if this building my own website, with the corner peel away ads and such.
Conservative opinions from someone who thinks a little differently than most.

Actually, I just wrote a paper about this for my marketing seminar, lol. It was a discussion about the tactics and ethics involved in guerrilla marketing campaigns, some of the examples being Discovery Channel hiring actors to dress up in period clothes (Egyptian) to promote a television special, and Sony Ericsson hiring actors to pretend to be tourists in big cities and ask passerbys to take pictures of them with a sony phone.

I think as people develop knowledge of an "advertising language," companies will need to develop new ways to promote products and services.

The only change I see coming is the integration of advertising inside TV shows and Movies. Its already happening on a small to mid size scale. I think that the next big trend will be for products to be prominantly displayed on some of our favorite (non-reality) TV Shows.... if you can get ahead of that trend you should make some money... way beyond my skill set
