    Funding a Movie

A few friends and myself wrote a movie and got it copywrited...We've met with several people in the movie industry who say its a well written script. We could sell the script, but wouldn't get nearly as much money as we think the movie can make. Anyone have any ideas on how to fund it so we can do it ourselves. We wrote it so it would be a very low budget movie, but equipment and such get expensive. Any Ideas?

film finance is a very specialist area...particularly if you're talking independent movies. what is your geographic location?

Do you have any experience with film production or know about "storyboarding", "continuity"? When you say do it yourself, do you mean act as the production company yourself and hire all and everyone, purchase or rent equipment, and plan ? In the film production industry, every day is planned for the entire filming process, be it one week or six months. I ultimately recommend talking with a producer.

Look if there is a local amateur film group or if a local college has a film program. If you were near a school with a decent program a professor might allow students to film and produce your film as a project which I would assume is needed for graduation. This way you introduce a new director, have the possibility to use the schools equiptment and production facilities, and further resources. The advantage for the student(s) having their name put on a real production prior to graduation which would be great for credibility.
At my school upper level marketing classes do research for emerging companies and pay nothing! They get full market research reports and the professors are more than willing to do this because not only are they helping an emerging firm but students like doing "real" work not text book cases. Again the credibility on a resume looks good.

Funding a movie is long time process. So you need money to participate in film festivals to seek interested executive producers and co-producers. What kind of budget are we talking here? Better find a way to loan a camera from someone and start shooting.
Have you put your script to SimplyScripts - Free Movie Scripts and Screenplays You may find interested producers from there.
