    From 40K a Year to 40K a Month

I came across a great book that I am sure most of you have heard. Its the 4 hour workweek by Tim Ferris.

Essentially the guy goes form 80 hours a week making 40K a year to 4 hours a week making 40K a month, and now he travels the world doing what he wants while his business runs on auto pilot.

He also teaches you step by step on how to mimick his results. Read the rest of the details Read the rest of the details here

I read it a while back. Some of the philosophy I agree with, most of the tactics I do not. The book is outdated for todays economy in my opinion. It also does not take in to account realistic business practices. He offered no statements or evidence of his earnings, as I recall, or that his methods worked as well as they did. And, it's most likely he made most of his money selling his ideas how to make money, like all the others.

Since this book has come out, I have not come across one other person I know or story that has used his techniques to earn the figures he claims to have earned, although I know people that have tried. In my opinion, he was able to craft a technique that worked in a very small window of time (2004 - 2008 economy) that is not quite workable today, not in the same architecture laid out in his book.

Think and Grow Rich was a great book. It was a study into the mindset of rich people and poor people. Instead of it telling you what to do to make money, it demonstrated how people who who are wealthy think. I would say this is a far more valuable book for an entrepreneur.

I'm on my second reading of the book and loved it! This time through I'll be completing each of the exercises and creating my own muse.

Tim Ferris also made a point to include the mindset necessary to escape the 9-5 trance most folks live in. I can't say enough good things about this book. And yes, I'll post updates over the next few months to verify my successes.

    Lambo,
You need a little better tactic to get people to shop at your amazon store/affiliate link. This will not bring the income you need.

Think and Grow Rich is nice, but it was a little too...well, WEIRD, for me to wrap my brain around. The way it's presented doesn't mesh well with modern thinking, it's more of a Gilded Age writing style. A few years ago the Napoleon Hill Foundation tried to clean it up a bit, but it only ended up bloated. The Science of Getting Rich and As You Think are much better works on the law of attraction, IMO. Rich Dad Poor Dad is also good, and is presented in a format that is more readily digestible by people in 2009. It hypes real estate a bit too much, but basically it's ok.

The Science of Getting Rich and As You Think were produced in an era when most people assumed that the rich got rich through fraud and theft, and that the appropriate response was for the wealth's "rightful owners" to steal it back. Wattles and Allen attempted to refute this, and did a pretty good job, although it was the equivalent of trying to build a wood wall to hold back a category 5 hurricane. Socialism had become popular dogma so quickly that it became impossible to pry it out. Napoleon Hill was writing in the mid 1930s, when FDR was experimenting with pure communism. Apparently Hill was quite elderly at the time, and wanted to refute FDR, but he did so in a style that had already had its day long before.

I've found that books like that are a great read but duplicating any results takes more than following to the letter how it was done. Books like that are more for a sample and proof than a blue print.

The book was a good read. I would agree that it's more of a mindset and taking a different view to approach things.

The 4 Hr Workweek is a great addition to any entrepreneur's library! We need balance in our lives, and this book demonstrates his crazy balance of business and mini-retirements. Most people in America have been so brainwashed to the thought that they need to work 40+ hrs/week and save up for "retirement" that they will not understand what Ferriss is talking about in this book.

It is for people like myself, who want to create residual income streams and then go have kick ass life experiences. Many people want to work much harder than I do. I make a full time living working 2-4 hours/ day tops, and I work on reducing that number, consistently, so I can Snowboard, Surf, Hike & Explore new lands. I have tried things like checking my email every other day, and see if it affects my income. In fact, recently, I canceled my cell phone, and switched to a voip line only and am LOVING the sense of freedom!

There are lateral moves everywhere & I think this book can be very enlightening for people who are ready for this new paradigm.
