If I set up a site there, is it possible to purchase a domain right from them and my website will be www.xxxxxxxxxxx.com, instead of www.xxxxxxx.webs.com? Also, if that's possible, to update the site, do I have to use a host company to host the site and make new updates?

Yes you could have your own domain without the sub-url they give you, you just need to pay a monthly fee. Just see this:

Free hosting is a waste of time. Splurge and spend $5 per month at godaddy. You won't look professional with freeweb ads on your website.
