    Flyers

Hello, I'm actually thinking about starting a service around my area. Maybe something like a house cleaning, or home delievey where i would go to the shop for old people and deliever their goods to them. (Maybe like 10p for each product) But heres my question, flyers.. how should flyers be made, is it just normal printing paper? or should i get some special paper designed for flyers :S Thanks in advance

24lb laser print paper will do the job, but 80lb gloss is the basic paper the printing shops use for flyers.

Before a real printing professional answers your question, you can use mine as a guideline. ^_^

I would make flyers a half sheet of paper each. You shouldn't need a whole page to convey an idea about your business. Grassroots flyers get good responses. For example, I used black and white ink and made it look really basic, and it did me well. First, learn your demographic though.

    Definitely agree with borisflower here.

Experience has shown me that the more basic the flyer, the better response. With consumers being so aware of advertising tricks, all the old ways dont work the way they used to.

Now people just want to know what it is you do and whats in it for them. No special design required!

I don't necessarily agree with the fact that the better paper is getting a better response.people care about the value. Whether its on a napkin or a milliondollar piece of paper.

Whats the difference between a $100 bill and a $1 bill? The message on the paper.

I think paper is important... as well as the information, design, and value. You're being judged from the moment they pick it up, make it a great first impression. I was going to have kinkos do some flyers for us last week... they wanted $.64 a page. No bulk discount. I called a printer I use and they did 250 flyers for me for $.30 each next day. I only wanted 100, but $65 for a hundred on regular stock or $80 for 250 on a thin glossy paper, which would you do? I chose the later and I'm very happy with the results.

I think the argument is less about paper and more about print quality in regards to your question. If you have access to a decent laser then you'd be fine, but a regular home inkjet won't produce the best flyers no matter the card stock.
