    Flipping Cars

My buddy and I are thinking of buying and selling cars to pay for our rent. Cheap cars, under 2000. He is a mechanic so we are looking for vehicles with blown head gaskets. But anyway, does anyone have any experience doing this in PA? I can't seem to find out what the deal is with paying taxes on the sale and do I need to have insurance to title the car? We wont be driving it on the road ever so I wouldn't want to pay for insurance if it wasn't necessary. Anyone have any advice?

Your talking about a dealership, because once they're fixed you need to sell them.

i dunno about that..i don't see an opportunity there
    the opportunities are in selling:
scooters, bicycles, electric/hybrid vehicles and chinese/indian cars..like the $2000 Tata Nano
Tata Nano - world's cheapest new car is unveiled in India ..or other ultra affordable cars The Race To Build Really Cheap Cars
that sort of stuff would be interesting to sell in u.s.
i think that a differentiated car dealership that only sells the world's most affordable cars under $5k would be a huge hit

Well a dealership would mean spending thousands and thousands of dollars on a license and you have to have a car "lot" to get a a dealer license. Im not looking to start a dealership by any means. In PA an individual is allowed to sell 10 cars in a year, after that you must become a dealer. Im simply looking to buy a car with a specific mechanical problem (HEAD GASKET). Then I am going to have my roomate who is a certified and experienced mechanic to fix it. Then I am going to sell it and take the profit and put towards our rent. We thought it would be a fun way to pay for our rent each month.

Now does anybody have experience in this area? Thanks in advance

My friends dad used to be a mechanic and they would buy salvaged cars at auction, fix them, and make thousands. If done properly, you can make money. Lots of people are wanting to save money right now, so if you can offer expensive cars for cheap, you might be on to something.
