flipping cars

I recently bought an old 80's Benz 240d off the internet. As soon as I brought my car home from New York, a friend offered me $3000.00 for it, when I paid $2000.00 a few hours earlier. I was wondering if there is a feasiblilty to 'flip' cars, much as it works in real estate. Buy the car cheap online, something that isn't usually seen in your region (as mine wasn't), spruce it up and sell it, either online or through local classifieds, for a good profit. I see this as possibly something for the younger set to get into, as real estate isn't really possible for teens and early 20 - somethings in terms of credit and finances. Again, this is just a rough sketch of a possible idea, any thoughts?

I am interested in this also. I have had the idea for a while but haven't acted on it. My idea involved being a broker. Have you done this before Eric?

Oh yeah, I have a dealer license and all that jazz. Just small stuff, only a few cars at any given moment. Right now I have a 2000 Audi A6 Quattro, 2000 Cadillac Deville Limousine, and a 2002 Lincoln LS V8 in stock - all gorgeous rigs.

I considered the similarity to selling used cars, but I was thinking more of a specialized 'boutique' kind of service that takes the car and makes it overwhemingly gorgeous while still keeping everything as original as possible. This service would sell cars (more often than not vintage/classic) that would appeal to a certain niche of 'car guys', not the mainstream. I've noticed in my own experience that the 'car guys' and collectors spend serious dollars when they see something they like. The Berkshire section of Massachusetts is full of 'old money' and artsy types who would love this service I would bet. Another kind of thing it could offer would be individual consultation to meet their demands and expectations in the revival of the car they want. It would be combination of a restorer/customizer/salesman with elements of each mixed in.

A dealers license and miscellaneous licenses will cost you about a G a year - and you have to have a "lot" in order to get one.

Heres another free thought/idea for you. One that my brothers friend did. Many international students here have cars that they have to sell off quickly when they finish their degrees and have to go back home. So usually they sell them for cheap to get rid of the car quick. Try finding those students first and buy their cards off them. My brothers friend made a few thousand dollars on just the one car he tried.

That's a very good idea... there are plenty of colleges in my area (around 25 i believe) and they are all very prestigious places (hey, they were on The Simpsons!) with huge international student populations. This could prove to be a real opportunity, thanks for the tip...

This is what I do all day. I take cars, clean and spiff them up and sell them on ebay. I can attest that there is good money in this.
