    First crack at a domain purchase

    Hello, so today I took my first crack at buying a domain name. I think I did ok, with the go green fever really catching on, I went with;

    dreamgogreen.com
    gogreengoal.com

    I thought they sounded ok and got a little feedback on them. I have to say I found the process fairly easy and straight forward. I went through godaddy.com, and when I went to check the sites they have an ad on there now saying it is "parked". Does that mean anything to me, or is it just saying someone owns it?
    There is also nothing saying who the owner is, so am I relatively protected from people knowing information on me?

    Godaddy.com and other domain registration companies are notorious for stealing domain names. If you search for a domain name that is real good and its available they will sometimes purchase it before you can! Selling domain names is probably a lucrative business I would imagine. Aren't they just the middle man between the organization which holds domain names and you the buyer?

    I have been looking around the internet all day trying to get some solid knowledge on how this whole process works. From what I can tell, my website is being parked for free since I bought them through godaddy.com, however I could be wrong

    I like how the names I picked, at least from my perspective, seem easy to remember and are pretty descriptive of content you would find on them. I am not sure how they fair against the rules for a profitable domain name though.

    I think godaddy parks all domains for free if you're not using them.

    So supposed I decided to turn these into perhaps information sites for homes and/or businesses to go green, would I do that through godaddy.com or would I have to find a hosting company?
    I have never built a website before, and i figured with a domain name costing $6.00 it couldn't hurt to mess with. Who knows, maybe one day they will make me some money with green initiatives picking up so much steam.

    @sjwings3249 you have chosen the domain names which is a the 1st part of the learning curve,the 2nd part is the hosting you can use godaddy but if you shop around or ask for advice on YE you will get some help and guidance and then the 3rd part of the equation is the script or the content of the site you can either buy a ready made script and adapt it,this depends on how deep your pockets are and if you have a sound knowledge of html.
    Dont be afraid to just say 'HELP' as this is what the forum is for.
    I would suggest you write down what you would like from your new site and people will help guide you and make some suggestion.Good luck in your new venture.
