Finally My Business Is Up & Running (critique it all you want)

I started a website which retails gold plated oil field products. I live in a city of a million plus where the oil industry is a major employer and there are tons of people who are in the business or who supplement it indirectly.

I have selected 5 products which are showcased on my website. Now All I have to do is pitch to small retailers and individual purchasers.

let me know what you think!!

    Questions are welcome!

I like the logo and the website is pretty good. I wouldn't really change anything other than maybe the scrolling images of the products on the bottom of the page. I'd have larger images, and have them the same size and shape, so that when you put them next to one another, they take up the exact width of the grey rectangle in which it rotates. I'm not sure I was able to express that properly. That way it doesn't look like you have only a very few products from the start.

The animation in the beginning is nice showing the details in the products.

Another thing I would change is the color on the scroll over effect on the navigation bar. For "Home" "Products" "Gallery" and "Contact Us" the golden box appears around the tab, however, when you scroll over the other links the turn black, which is very difficult to see against the dark grey background.

In additional a lot of the pages aren't set up yet.

Nonetheless, I think there is a chance for success here. I like the products, and if the oil drilling industry is large in your area, that sounds promising.

    Best of Luck!
    -Andrew

I suppose this answers the question: "what do you buy the guy that has everything?"

    Nice.

I've never seen anything like this before. The website is good and the products look like something the oil industry ppl would be interested in buying.

For the gallery you should showcase the products around a house or office so that customers would get an idea of how it would look when they take it home. Other than that good job and I see this working out good for you

I think you have an excellent product there and a decent web sight. have you thought of expanding into other areas besides oil fields? Ships, trains, barges, Da Vinci drawings etc? Steve

    It's definitely a niche!

Congratulations on getting this up and running.

Tactically, you need to more than sales calls - you need proof of concept sales, and sometimes you have to fake those. What do I mean "fake" those? For example, It would be a good idea to gift one of these items to an oil exec in your area. Give him the most expensive one. Having it on his desk will generate interest from everyone that visits his office, and whenever he needs to send a gift to another oil exec he'll have a friendly reminder of what to send right in front of him.

Think bulk sales -- your initial sales calls should be to the person that handles corporate gifts.

Mind your seasons and events. Attend all of the oil conventions (and the republican conventions --- sorry couldn't resist) and do all that you can do to stay relevant during major corporate purchasing months (Sept-Dec).

Is there an oil rag (magazine?) Inquire about advertisements. Perhaps the Oil CEO you gift one of these to might be friendly enough to through some seed $$ your way.

Yeah neat products never seen anything like this. I like the idea where you will be submitting it to some oil magazine. Possibly trade shows, ebay, and SEO-ing out your website so do the trick.....dang pretty pricey too nothing for these oil execs. gl!

I'm not trying to nit pick at your site because I think it is a wonderful site but I did find a slight spelling error that you might want to correct. In your FAQ under nothing happens when I push the button you gave this response.. "All of our animated models require a AA battery which does not come included. Please insert this batter on the bottom of the walnut base in order for the product to work." should be a Y at the end of battery in the second sentence

Other that that you have a wonderful site

just an FYI if you want to get rid of the Joomla Favicon. Go into the template folder and delete the favican file. There are hackers who look for this favicon and will destroy the website just for fun.

@Umar i would be most suprised that he would go into great details who his supplier or other details as such i would think he would keep that under his belt,i have to say it is a great niche area to be in and hence that is why the possible interest in the supplier side of it.I could well be wrong but your site and products are quality.
