Federal Income Tax

I believe I read in the past that if you didn't make over $18,000 (there is a specific number) that you don't need to pay any taxes because you fall under a certain bracket. This only applies (i believe) to a business including a sole proprietorship. Has anyone else heard of this? If so, anyone know where I can get it on either the IRS website or any other "credible" source? $18,000, about, is for my STATE income tax. Sorry, to clarify I wanted to know what the minimum for Federal income tax is. Thanks, it's greatly appreciated.

That's what im trying to figure out. Theres a minimum bracket for state and federal based on total income, marriage status (single/married) and if you live alone or with someone else. They have all of that information, I've seen it before, but I wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction because the government sites are ghastly to find stuff in.

Thanks for the link. I'm not really looking for a calculator because those only really estimate income mostly based on working under an employer when im a sole proprietor. Thanks for taking the time to post.
