    Federal ID needed?

I've considered pursuing my goals of starting up an online ecommerce store. Do I need a federal ID or a Business License?

The mere consideration of starting a business does not require an FIN or business license. . .If you follow through, don't worry about it unless you start making enough money to matter. . .

The Federal Tax ID is free - You need to go to your state's tax website and apply for the sales tax ID number. It's a totally different number. Your EIN is a Federal thing, and your sales tax ID is a state thing. You'll probably need to fill out a form, and somewhere on the form, you'll put in your EIN. You should do this before you actually start making sales. Huhh

It depends on how you are operating. If you are a single member LLC, a separate Fed Tax ID is not required. If you are a sole prop, it is not required. A business license depends your local and state laws.
