Fanlete - My new Social Networking site - Feedback Appreciated

I have been working on a new project for a month now. The site is called Fanlete i.e. (Fan + athLete). Fanlete is a social network for sports fans, oriented around their favorite teams. While social networking is at the core we are focusing on some more custom interactive features that directly apply to sports fans:

Sports Community
Join other fans of your favorite teams and see what they are saying. Add your friends to track their opinions and predictions.

Predictions
Show off your sports knowledge by predicting the winner of certain games. Track and comment your friends predictions. See what other fans are predicting about your favorite teams.

Competitions
Challenge one or a group of your friends in a prediction competition. Choose as many games as you want in any sport combination to find out who is the best. Think of it as College Hoops brackets, for any sport, at any time, in any sport combination.

I would love to hear feedback and ideas about the concept.. If you are a sports fan, sign up for the beta so I can get you in early to check it out. We should be opening it to more people within a couple weeks.

Social networking is now becoming swarmed, which means there is much more of a chance that this project might fail.

good stuff

i think this thing's got legs

thumbs up!

it's gonna be quite the journey.

i imagine ads on the back of game tickets

that's a deal that would make you a company

as they say in show biz - break a leg!

I would agree with Lex, but then its a 50-50 chance in this case. As this area is getting saturated day-by-day , You may have to work real hard to make your social n/w site stand out from the rest.

why don't people on this site actually finish their projects before asking for feedback on just an rough idea?

I assume you have very little knowledge in product develpment. First, the idea, second: see if ppl like the idea. Third is to build prototypes for testing and see what ppl think hands on. Fourth: production if and only if the first three stages point towards profit. Yeah it can be timely but not as time consuming as building up from bankruptcy on an untested flimsy idea.

So in short - because of money/risk

Ok ok i'm not saying completely finish the project, but at least have something there to review. A lot of poeple on this forum post "Check out my blog and tell me what you think!" while only have 2-3 posts to read. I can't get a good feel on the goals of the site from a blog thats been around a day or two, so there's no way to tell if it will be successful or not.

As for Fanlete... At least the forum could be up and running with some activity. Due to the similarity of most social networking sites, it'd be nice to see it live so we could look for advantages/disadvantages against other sites.

In short... if people want me to review something, i want to see it in your "third stage".

It is mostly finished. We have beta testers in the site right now. I'm just trying to see if anyone else has any ideas before I open the site up to more people.
