I am in first year of college. Each week I am emailed a 'Deal of the Week'. My college is located in the middle of the city so each week we are given this deal for a restaurant/cafe or something similar. It is a deal for food such as 2 for 1 or a special menu -all cheap to accomodate us students.

However the deal of the week is only related to food.

My idea:
The end goal would be to have a Facebook account with different deals of the week/month - not just for food. Examples would include food, shoes, clothes and alcohol - other possibilities which might not be regular would be event tickets, monthly cinema tickets and other events - 25% paintballing for example. My ideal goal is to get students to submit their college email addresses.

- To qualify for these discounts the students must present a valid student card (possibly only have the offer extend to certain colleges? Such as in my city alone?)

To start it:
1) I will have to approach several shops, restaurants and cafes to secure deals for the account.
2) Once I have deals on the page (with no charge to the businesses) I would add friends. I believe I could get around 250 very quickly. My aim would be around 2000.
3) On the Facebook account, in the info box on the left, I will say something along the lines of "Mail me your college email to make sure you are updated of our deals!". How does that sound?
4) Once 1000 friends is reached (or maybe 500?) I plan on charging business 10 cent per friend to have their deal posted on my page.

Problems:
1) Obviously having 2000 friends won't help unless my status (the deal) appears in their newsfeeds. My hope is that a significant number will submit email addresses (college ones which are frequently checked) so that I can have more of an impact. Perhaps I should have a monthly giveaway that is only for email subscribers? Any suggestions for the prize?

2) What kind of deals should I try to secure?? Food, alcohol, clothes and shoes - what else? I need to stand out, be exciting. So I need to try and find events around my city and offer discounted tickets if possible. Maybe I should organise events eventually?

I would love to hear your feedback. Please tell me what you like, what you think should be done and not be done and what you hate about the idea! Also please feel free to share potential problems.

Thanks!
