Entrepreneur = "Small" Business, Why Not "Large" Business?

Hello everyone. I've been a registered member here for quite some a long amount of time, but I'm now only getting into entrepreneurship. You can basically consider me a newbie.

    So for my first question:

Why is entrepreneurship always associated with the term "small business?" How come never "large business?" Can't an entrepreneur run a large business? Even the slogan here on YE is "Small Business, Big Vision."

Well I think the thing here is that its young entrepreneurs. In most cases they are starting out with less experience, less reputation, and less capital. BUT it is also a mental block in my opinion. If you believe you will run a small business then that is what you will do. its true you have to start somewhere, but it has to be temporary in your mind(assuming you want to break free of small business). it has to be just a stepping stone in your mind. Thats my thoughts on the topic.

I never considered it to be limited to small business - And I don't think all business owners are entrepreneurs.

True on all counts. Small business, because that's where you have to start. Yes, even Google started small and hit a VC, and here we are today. Microsoft started small too.

If you wrap your head around only being small, then you'll be just that.. small. If you have bigger, better dreams, and you dont let yourself hold you back - and you have a viable plan - then the sky's the limit.

"Entrepreneur" = someone who organizes a business venture and assumes the risk for it

Sure - I think entrepreneurs are born that way. We like taking risks and asking questions. We're starters. Constantly thinking, constantly learning, teaching ourselves.

Some business owners own their business because pop handed it down to them, or because pop did it, or they went to law school and started a practice, or got an MBA and started a business - In my opinion, you're born with certain characteristics that make you an entrepreneur, not all business owners have it, but I think most do.
