    Electronic Manufacturing

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction? I have an idea for a rather low tech consumer electronic product. I have a very specific target market and a good idea how to reach that market, however i need more info on actually launching my product.

Basically i would like information on companies that could help me take this product from my head into an actual physical form or prototype. Could i bring a simple lay-men sketch to this potential manufacturer or would i need to hire an engineer to do an official drawing with SPECS?

    Any information would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

You can go with a simple sketch but odds are you will get nothing in return. Do you have any capital that you can put behind the idea.

    Thanks for your response!

I do have some capital and people who say they would be willing to put some money behind the idea. The actual product i am talking about is essentially a set of small speakers which i think would be cheap to produce a prototype.

Do you know any companies/resources that help in creating a prototype?

    Thanks.

    Bpthomas,

I’ll provide you with a short run down.

1.) You would need a sketch of the unit.

2.) Find a reliable engineer who can design your drawing.

3.) Certifications for the product. EMI- “Electromagnetic Interfernce” Such as CE certifications, product safety, etc, etc.

    4.) Manufacturing the product.

There are many other steps involved that was just a short run down. If want more information on the process PM me and I’ll see what I can do for you.

From my experience as an engineer, this process is very time consuming and quite expensive.
    God Bless,

    Jason

It costs heaps and heaps to get a new product made $100,000 +. Plus then you will need to get it manufactured in bulk so you will have to pay for that stock. How serious are you about your idea? There are plenty of companies that will do everything for you they will take it from a drawing to a product on the shelves but you will have to pay for it. If your product is really something special you might be able to find a manufacturer in a similar industry who can develope it and manufactur it. Be really really careful there are alot of invention promotion scams out there who will promise you everything but will delivery nothing.

    Good luck with it

most of the time it costs loads but if you do things personally then cost can be dramatically cut. sit down with the phone book and chat with a load of engenieers, get quotes. ask around with friends and family for engeneirs. to find manufactures email every chinese supplier on the net that produces anything similar (best to set up a whole new email address for this as you get loads of spam) i have never built my own product from the ground up completly but my dad and i have done things similar such as personalisation. my uncle had a new piece of diving equipment built from the ground up and through to production. if you stick at it it'll come.
