make mistakes and learn from them.
better yet, learn from other people's mistakes.
I got started by reading a bunch of stuff online. primarily from blogs and such. I'm in the midsts of my first venture and it has really taught me a lot.

Education is over rated. All you need is Math and English. I never learned anything after my freshman year in school. School does not teach you to become an entrepenuer. It teaches you how to become a good employee.

I agree with Muddy to a certain extent about his views on education. But let me assure you that education is the best investment a person can make in his/her lifetime. Education never goes waste and if your business goes pear shaped, you have the back up of your education i.e. your degrees.

entrepreneur654,
If you only pick one topic to master, you need to make it finance and accounting. You need to really learn the money aspect to run a business, no matter what the business is. You can get by with learning anything else as you go, but it is imperative to know the money aspect before starting.
Good luck to you!

I disagree that education is overrated. College is one of the things that I credit with how my personality was shaped both personally and professionally. No, going to school and majoring in entrepreneurship (or any other major for that matter) isn't going to automatically make you a successful business owner. But experiencing things like college and any jobs you might hold in the future are going to help you find out what you are interested in and what you are good at. Also, what you experience will give you a lot of ideas for potential businesses. I know I have a couple ideas in the back of my mind that there is no way anyone without the same education/experiences as me would ever come up with.
So my recommendation is to pick whatever interests you the most, be it business, engineering, psychology, or anything else, and keep your eyes and your mind open for any potential niche you might come across.

School does not teach you information. It teaches you how to learn new information and process. In our education system everything is years behind of the business world. So you really are not learning information, just how to process it.
But remember, college is a great back up tool. Say you dont go to college, and just start a business. The business fails and you then are stuck with a shit ass job. If you have a degree then you can get a good job.
