Educating the YE
I am just amazed by certain individuals who come on YE, and start asking questions hoping to learn everything they need to know in order to start a business.
So, may be I am just stupid and naive, but can someone really learn everything they need to know about starting a business from an online forum like YE and go out there and start successful business?
Or is YE just a place to network and socialize, and not necessary an education institution?
Can you really go out there and start a successful business just by asking questions and learning from this community, if you had no idea on how to start and run a business?
I was hoping that people initially go out there, start something and then come on here, just trying to figure out how to improve and market what they have already started, and not necessarily how to start a business?

for me personally.. i think YE is a way for me to network with other entrepreneurs but I also learn how others progress with their business models.. gain information regarding where to find cheap tshirt manufacturers.. scams..that is so widely posts
I don't agree that a direct information from YE can help anyone start a business..it is more like a step stones.. you know the basic and asking around here in YE will eventually help you

I think the best way is we all go out and start something out. From this process, we will have a lot of problems and questions. Then we come back to this forum and ask around for helps. I think this is the best way we can leverage and learn from forum.

I think that it would be nice to at least have some sticky notes at the top of the forum to point new members in the right direction.

usakos, the answer to your question is NO!
You have to do more...much more.
You have to educate yourself on the ins and outs of business and marketing.
A forum is merely a tool...not a be all end all solution for solving problems or starting a business.

agreed a forum can be a leverage - helpnig you as you go, lots of people throw ideas at you ways to improve, but you will beed to do teh split testing
there are newies out there that do everything all at once and fail right away just because they hear adsense is the easiest way to make money, or affiliate marketing, or banner exchanges, etc
just need to take the time and test what is best for your internet business

I think this is a good source for information and a bouncing board for ideas that maybe just need a view from a different perspective. Any info given should be researched to see if that’s a good avenue or source for the individual.
Maybe I haven’t looked deeper into the older threads, but it would be good to have a thread just for those who have started a successful business and maybe they share some of the pros and cons they encountered. I ran across some threads asking for help to start businesses or projects, but then nothing was ever reported how things turned out.

I agree Dale;
I myself have over 15+ years of business experience. I come here to socialize, not necessarily to actually be educated on here. When I realized that i needed more formal training in what i am doing, i decided to go back to college, and will graduate next winter, and thereafter, I'll be enrolling in a PhD economics program at my university, and then I'll do a joint MBA/Law. I am going all the way, I have time and can make my own time to study. I value good education the most.
i was more like referring to some folks who come on here or other online forums, asking basic questions, expecting to learn how to successfully setup and run a business.

Yeah, I know usakos.
My response wasn't directed at you specifically. I realize you know what you're doing, and I applaud you for continuing to educate yourself.
My response was directed at those who are too lazy to put in the time to properly educate themselves, and view forums as some kind of magic pill.

Got to know how to gather and filter out good and bad information. Forum plus other various sources would be a very good start, then all you need is experience.

I kind of disagree. I think you should be positive about whatever anyone wants to learn. Of coarse they cant learn all the tricks that we have aquired through the years ,in just a couple of minutes.
All I can say is , be positive about it,no matter how insane it may seem.
We can show them the road, and maybe even walk it a little way, but we cant hold their hand the whole way.
I would like to turn this forum from just a place to post, to somewhere people can find useful information they need, to at least get started.
Is that such a big goal? I know I am new but this forum has so much more potential. There are smart people here.
