e-mag or e-newspaper

I was just wondering if theres any websites around that offfer free services for this? I am thinking about starting an e-mag about Oregon Football and Basketball, and then possibly might branch out to Oregon State and the HS Football in Oregon. Thanks for your input.

Why don't you start a website and offer a free monthly newsletter first.

Once you reach a certain level of members who want the free newsletter you can start doing polls to find out who would be interested in paying for an emag / enewspaper.

You can maybe send them a free copy of the higher quality emag / enewspaper first before getting them to subscribe.

You can then carry on the free monthly newsletter aswell to lure in new users before offering them the real product, so to speak.

If you have a hosting account that supports php and/or cgi you can buy a script such as http://www.mailworkspro.com/. A free alternative would be http://www.siteinteractive.com/subscribe/

You can also use a remotely hosted solution, here is a list of a few options http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Remotel...Mailing_Lists/

One way you could go is to lay the mag out like a normal print publication using a standard layout app like Adobe InDesign or Quark Xpress . Then either export the mag to a pdf and let people download it from your site or import it into Flash and add interactive elements to it, such as animated page turning, links, sound effects, etc... A good example of a Flash e-mag is MagWerk

I was the Editor/Owner of a small magazine for a few years and would reccommend laying the magazine out in InDesign so it looks like a professional publication and then converting it to the interactive Flash format.

Good luck to you luckyduck.
