Drafting a Terms of Service/Privacy Policy

So i was wondering, is it illegal to copy and alter slightly another sites terms of service and/or privacy policy? I am trying to cut back on fees of having someone draft this up and i heard somewhere that this was not illegal and that you cant exactly copywrite standard legal documents. Anyhow does anyone have any knowledge on this subject?

How does everyone else come up with this content??

    Hi Mike-

It isn't illegal, and you should go out to other sites/businesses that are doing the same or clost to what you are going to be specializing in, just make sure to tailot it to your needs/services/policies etc.

If you take a look at my terms and conditions you will see there are the generic/standard sections but I tailored them to my services and our specific policies. Then, I had a lawyer friend look them over and sign off on it/make edits/give me good suggestions.

    Hope this helps.

I was told by a former lawyer, that if you go to a lawyer asking for terms and conditions they will not be very helpful. they will hand you something thats irrelevent to your venture.
Email v-legal. They will help you vLegal - Home
