I hate people who "park" sites. Occasionally, you will see something like this, (ebookhub.net) where you can make an offer at the bottom. When someone does this they are obviosuly interested in selling. Now, If you do not happen to see this the owner is most likely not interested in selling, so the site is prob under construction. How you would get in contact with them is beyond me. What you CAN do. Is backorder the domain, so that if they happen to miss a renewal date, you quickly grab it. You can do that with Godaddy.com

If you use SEDO.com you can pay around $70 and they will work on acquiring the domain for you.

Do a 'who is' search and then email or call the owners... thats the easiest way. I've done the back order thing like 10 times and only got one site (after 3 years).

You can also do a WHOIS inquiry to see if there is any administrative information for the owner. Go to Register.com then click on WHOIS on the far right side of the menu bar. Sometimes this can give you useful information, but not always.

Who.is: Universal Whois Lookup is what I use.

Everyone I emailed actually replied. But they asked for far too much:

    appraisal x 10.

Just find a different domain name, sites aren't based off domain names. People are not going to search for what they want via URL. They are going to google it! As long as the title of your site states what you offer or your name, you should be good to go! Search Engine Optimization.

Checkout ExpiredDomains.com. They allow you to enter a keyword and see what domains have expired or will expire soon.

It is useful to find a new domain name and get the juices flowing.

Just whois[dot]net the website, and use the contact information you find to email the person and ask if they are using the domain, and what would be a reasonable offer.
