Domain for sale any takers

I had a site running called owntheUnitedStates.com however due to other interests it was like a Lead Ballon ( no chance of getting off the ground ) so i dumped the site and kept the domain name and now i am asking the following,

1. Do i sell the name ? if so are there any takers ?
2. Re think the strategy and start it again as something else ?
3. Fill it to the brim with USA based products from affiliate sites and sit back and pray.

As ever your advice please gentlemen ( and ladies, but as someone pointed out in an earlier thread, not many women on here )

I have thought about Ebay but after a long battle over someone hacking my ebay account way back i have little or no faith in them.
Any thoughts on a re-design package ? i thought at the time the domain name didn't sound too bad, it was however one of the first i bought and maybe i was looking through rose tinted glasses as they say.

Dont bother selling it, you probably wont get anything for it.

The americans love buying irish made products such as waterford crystal and royal tara china so maybe you could do the opposite and sell american made products(youd have to do some research into this) to foreigners who maybe used to live there or have visited there or to amercan born people who came to live in ireland or whatever.

Or maybe thats a totally crap idea!!
Probably the latter.

The good thing is you could probably do it through affiliate programs as well.

Unless there's something special about the domain, no one will pay a premium for it ... period. The only times when domains are snatched up after they expire or in the course of an auction is if they have a substantial amount of traffic leading in or if they are "prime" on-line real estate (e.g., three or four letter domain, brandable name, etc.). Still, you have to be weary of names with high recognition potential, because you may well be comitting trademark infringement in the process by buying or holding such a name.

Don't believe me? Check out www.tdnam.com, GoDaddy's domain auction website. Out of 64,201 listed domains, fewer than 500 have one or more bids. Heck, you probably wouldn't even earn back what your time is worth to list and sell the thing, assuming it DID get any bids! Just let the domain expire...
