Domain buying/parking

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but seeing how I'm a newbie, I don't fully understand the process. Could someone please explain the idea behind buying domain names, parking them and then selling them? Are there certain criteria to consider when choosing a domain? If someone would take the time to address my question, I'd greatly appreciate it

**SORRY if this is poorly written, i have to leave in about one minute

yes there is a process on choosing a domain. Read this
http://www.dnjournal.com/columns/cover040805.htm

the idea of buying and selling domains is much like real estate but its over the internet. You buy them and hope they might apprecieate.

The price of the domain is really only the price that someone wants to buy the domain for.

The idea behind is it makes you a lot of money if you have a good collection. Look at greatdomains.com and check out what some of the domains are selling for. For further information register at dnforum (NO NAMEPROS) they are garbage.

When you buy domains and have no development for them then park them at www.namedrive.com. You can gain revenue from ads on there when people accidentally go there. Then if someone wants to buy it they may shoot you an offer.
When buying a domain try to go for something that someone may someday want... Like I have www.theyre.in and www.googsta.com to name a few. How much they're worth, who knows.

as a disclaimer, its not super easy to just think of a domain and sell it for profit. Usually, people want you to develop a site with the domain and show that you have consistent traffic to the site. Traffic will drive the domains value.

I'm a step by step person... so maybe thsi will help.
  1. Think of a domain name
  2. Look up its availability. I use www.godaddy.com
  3. If it's availabe, you can make a purchase through godaddy.com
  4. You then have access to GoDaddy's user interface, which allows you to "forward" the domain to a web address or have it directed on a different server

One you have the domain, you can take it over to sedo.com or namedrive.com and let their service park it for you. If your domain is popular, you may get people to type in the name and click on ads... thus making you money. If not, your domain could just sit there.

You can also develop a site for your domain and market it. Hopefully you generate significant web traffic... and perhaps loyal visitors would continually visit your site. Maybe after 6 months, your site becomes popular... and generates 100+ unique visitors a day. At which point you can decide whether or not you want to sell the site.

I've gone over some basic stuff... I'm sure there is more. Anyone care to add?

I am sorry for this silly question: can someone please explain to me what is domain parking? Do we pay extra (beside domain registration fee) to park the domain?

Thanks
