Exclamation Does Your Business Slow Down During Summer Months?

Does your business slow down during summer months...or is it pretty consistent throughout the year? And if the summer months are slow for you, how do you offset the reduced income?

I own a tanning salon, have for the last 13 years. Tanning is very seasonal and we off set that by doing kiosks at the mall for November and December. You have to pay the bills.

That is true, carts for the most part are November and December acts. What type of puzzles did you sell? I have looked at a cart idea lately that is operated by the Calendar Club but I just ran across it and I really don't know much at all about it. You can do business with sunglass carts during the summer months and there are others that do business year round but not a lot.

I think kiosks are a great idea for capitalizing on consumer-spending trends leading into the December holidays. One of my dear friends recently started an internet-based business but she also wants to focus her market on a local level. I'll be assisting her during the holiday season by manning a kiosk at a local mall that receives heavy traffic. *humming Dionne Warwick's song, "That's What Friends Are For" because I wouldn't be volunteering for this duty if I didn't believe in the products and if I didn't share the same vision that my friend does!!*

And this is the portion of the text wherefore I now shamelessly promote the site of my dear friend, Sandy.

    www.starbrightkidscompany.com

I could delve into a sales pitch but I'm not gonna do that. But if you have kids and you're looking to expand their horizons, please check out Sandy's site. I've bought a multitude of items from her and my 6-year-old absolutely loves them!!

And no, I'm not Sandy nor am I attempting to self-promote. I just simply wanted to say that kiosks are a great -- and inexpensive -- way to capitalize on slower times.

    Kindest regards,

    Tax

Hosting is a seasonal business (funny, huh?), with the biggest months being November - February. The slowest months are June - August.

Thus far (in 3 years), it hasn't been too much of a problem. But, cash flow management is important to ensure that no problems arise!

    No doubt about the hosting.

We've even found the start-up biz has seasons. People aren't near their computers in july. They run outside after work, and mow grass... and don't make me any money. LOL

Honestly though, what you'll find is most have seasons, unless you start to really drive traffic. We've driven some monster traffic, but with the 21-35 sect still being outdoorish.. and active, we run into the July 4 blackholes.. and such.

My retail business definitely slowed down during the summer, but consulting doesn't seem to be as effected.

Seems like the food business does slow down at the summer time, but once the football season rolls around, it definately picks up.

That statement doesn't make any sense, since people have to eat to survive.

Not to someone who doesn't work in the food industry. Hmm. Let me rephrase. The restaurant industry.

Summer months tend to advocate BBQ's, camping trips, etc. I suppose I cannot speak for all regions, would simply be speculation, but for the area where I work and live, the restaurant industry I would estimate slows by at least 30% during summer months. My restaurant slows by more than 40% during the summer months.

I'm sure the National Restaurant Association has all sorts of figures, but I don't really feel like spending the time analyzing them.
