Does Ebay suck?

we got this deal on the back burner for a while.

it's a web based service for Ebay sellers. what it's supposed to do is help people sell their goods much quicker at much higher prices.

we're thinking of it as "put your Ebay sales on steroids" sort of a thing but I am not sure if we're delusional.

Is Ebay OK, do you think there is room to make it better?

(I'm just trying to figure out if any of the Ebay sellers here have any problems that need solving)

Thanks

I suppose there will always be difficulties is selling items on ebay, especialy some of the more un-desirable items or specialist items. However I don't think there is any ways you can increase the chances of selling a product, other than obviously on the descriptions page. How were you thinking of solving this problem?

it's a web application that makes ebay listings indexable on search engines.

we figure if we liberate people from Ebay's walled garden, they can reach more prospects.

it's like...the application fetches the ebay listing, creates a unique URL for it and then submits the listing to all the engines....you can also do an add on so that the listing is advertised on Adwords...

so....we figure that if there are more prospects looking at the listing, the item can sell quicker at higher price.

are we bullshitting our selves? does anybody need this?

I think that's a great idea, however...you may want to take a quick look at eBay's terms of use and copyright laws. Most sites prohibit the use of their information and resources on other sites.

I think Ebay's fine. I've sold about 80 or so items, antiques and such. The only problems I've had are with dead beat buyers. Also, I think there are several other Ebay copy cat sites out there. How will your's be different? How will you advertise?

it's ok, the thing fetches the listing's RSS feed.

it's the seller's open content, so we are not taking squat from Ebay

i'll cut you in if you want

I have an eBay store, one of the many venues I sell on,

http://stores.ebay.com/Sheldons-Bookshelf

And the problem I find is knowing whats going to sell. When I list through my management website that allows me to sell on a multitude of venues, I can see value and rank for books but never know if they have sold recently. I suppose some kind of scripts that act with ebay that can tell how many of an item has sold recently and what kind of price range? I'm not sure if ebay has even allowed programmers to tap into that info yet though.

Cool idea, but won't work. Unless it had a way of instantly pulling the listings after they ended from the engines otherwise it would just clog the engines with junk and wouldn't be fair to other advertisers/submittees.

hmmm....maybe what you're saying is that the when customer will have sold the item, but the dated item listing is still in Google's index, and when organic traffic finds it - people will be disappointed.

is this what you're saying?
