    Exclamation Does Any One Know...

I am looking for a on-line business that actually works. I currently own an advertising agency in Massachusetts and I am looking for another venture to make more money in my off-hours. As you all know there are tons of "Make Millions Now" scam business out there. I just want to get involved in a legit buiness where I can make some extra money without investing a large amount of money.

I do have plenty of time on the side.

    Thank you for your help.

"An online business that actually works"? There are about 10 MM out there.

You're working in reverse. What do you like to do? What do you have an interest in doing? Use the answers to those questions to find a business that suits you.

Chances are anyone who knows of an "online business that actually works" is doing that business and isn't to keen on giving away the secrets to create immediate competition. Especially not on a public message board.

When you find out what you like like postman and nadi talked about, there are countless things you can do with the internet. since you are already familiar with advertising and promoting, why not promote and sell other people's products:

    1. Do a google for affiliate products, these guys pay you a good percentage of every unit you sell. A lot of them are free for you join and start selling. But to protect your reputation, try out the product before you sell it!

    2. Find out about selling information products on the internet, things you are familiars with to start. A lot of money to be made there, maybe check out some copywriting.

    3. Promote yourself online! You have an ad agency in Massachusetts, and you have more than an above average knowledge and understanding of advertising... why not use your expertise and create a product of your own and distribute it through the internet?!?

Buy used porno DVD's in bulk on craigslist (advertise "I BUY PORN") and then turn around and sell them in an online store at a 100%++ markup.

    I'm actually not joking......you'd make a mint.

    Give 5% discounts to fraternities.

EDIT: Don't let anyone talk you into doing anything that turns you into more of a salesman than an entrepeneur. Market a product that sells itself. You don't NEED to write killer super-aggressive sales copy to sell porn because it's PORN, people will buy it anyway. The same goes for me when I sell a car at 75% of list value that I might've bought for 50%. I don't need to market it because it's plainly something people want for less than they expect to pay for it.

Be an arbitrageur, find discrepancies in goods prices between markets and exploit them. Don't just become one more guy selling the same crap that everyone else is selling, because then you don't have an angle, you're just a salesperson.

Being some other companies' one-man marketing department (i.e. affiliate BS) does NOT make you an entrepeneur, it makes you an affiliate marketer.

    Exactly.

Tooooooo many people try to start a business with "i want to make money". I don't know much because I'm new at this too - but every book, article and quote I've read - all the success stories started out with a PROBLEM or a SOLUTION.

Look around you. What things do you find yourself doing too often and not enjoying the process? What things do you wish could be easier? Or what things do you find entertaining?

    Answer those questions.

Now take a look at your answers and start thinking, "would others find this useful?" If so - voila! You've got the start of a business.

Again, MySpace was born out of a desire for a way to promote independent bands and musicians. Did they know it'd become a cult favorite of the 13-18 set? NO. Did they know rappers and actors, actresses and movie studios would be clamoring to get their characters linked up on mySpace? No. Was that even the original intention? No.

Problem + solution + make it readily available = business idea.

Quit looking for a short cut. There aren't any worth taking.

    That just made the signature!

EDIT: And yet, it ISN'T showing up in my sig. WTFBBQ! It's displayed when I go to "User CP" and try to edit my sig, but I don't see it in the pics.

Do only super extra-special people get to have signatures? Am I not super-extra-special? My mommy told me I was a special and unique snowflake.

Brian, let me ask you something.

    a) do you like to write/blog?
    b) do yo like sports? which one? which team?

I've seen a huge change in the internet culture this past few years. with the rise of all the social networking sites more and more people are expecting to get information for free. I think that if you have a passion for soemthing and you have free time then write about it! i can help you create a website, buy the domain, i'll even host it for you! all you need to do is promote it and get members. i can create either a sicial networking, blog or forum site for you. I have not created these before and it would look good on my resume. if you agree i can give you tips on how to expand your membership on the site by using free tools i've compiled and developed. let me know buddy.

oh, yeah..how will you make money..ADSENSE.

I suggest buying and reading "Entrepreneur America" by Rob Ryan, a great handbook for a business owner or start-up. It was my bible in starting one of my businesses.

The things that sell online through information eBooks are probably selling like mad for the internet gurus, but the truth is not everyone has the skills and talents of an entrepreneur. So there are a ton of dreamers out on the net buying up "How to Make Money" eBooks, yet they can't create a system to capitolize on their investment.

Rob Ryan would say: What solution can you solve for a business? Devise a service or product that solves a legit business problem and you may be on your way to creating a business. He'd say don't invest in a business that sells to individuals, their whims come and go. A business has money, so that's where you target your business opportunity- at other businesses.

Brian- This discussion forum is a great business idea. It gets "like mined folks to help each other" and as the memberships increase, they start selling pretty high priced ads through AdBright. So in effect this website creates potential customers for businesses that sell "business stuff" or "entrepreneurial stuff" that gets advertised within the forum. Y-Brian
