Do you think what you know is more important than who you know?

Most of you probably heard the buzz-phrase "It's who you know, not what you know"

Do you think that what you know is more important than who you know in business?

    A little of both...
If you sell computer hardware and your friend is an IT guy for say Pepsi Bottling Co and he makes the decisions on where he buys... Then of course it's who you know.
If you're a freelance software writer and you rely on good advertising to get you work, well the more you know the better job you'll do the more work you'll get.

Just an example from both sides. Guess it depends on the situation.

If you plan on having your business grow then I would say it is who you know. If you are running a pizzeria then it would be what you know.

lol, jgarifuna, you like these, don't you? Yeah, it definitely depends on what your ultimate goals are. If you're striving be President de los estados unidos, knowing the right people is obviously critical. In terms of my plans: Having a hand in hundreds, potentially thousands of businesses, it's definitely both. lol, to a point, for me, "who I know" might not be as important as "who knows me." Also, as far as "what you know" goes, it's not necessarily what I know, but how I use what I know that is most important which is true for everybody I'd think. (e.g. What is knowledge without understanding and understanding without implementation?)

Knowledge is Power. I'd say, it's about equal. You may know many influential people, but if you have nothing to bring to the table, that in their knowing you, can be beneficial to them, then you've got jack squat. LOL!

I heard this propaganda before. What they never tell you is whose power it is.

When you go to school to gain knowledge, who really becomes more powerful, you the one shelling out the money to the school, or the school receiving your funds?

When you purchase a book from amazon or barnes & noble to gain knowledge, who's really becoming powerful, you the one shelling out the money for the book, or the corporation that just made another sale from you?

the 48 laws of power my friend

we're talking about leveraging information to make people do what we want

the book covers numerous examples how this has been successfully and unsuccessfully practiced by everyone from Nietzsche to Mao Zedong, with both spectacular and sometimes fatal results.

It's great reading. very entertaining, and very relevant.

particularly, if you want to start companies

I'll look into it. Once again, thanks for providing premium resources!

I can certainly relate to both sides, the successful side and the fatal side. One thing that I've learned in the passed few years to maximize success over fatal results is to take my ego out of the way
What most people are usually looking for is some respect and attention and when they get this, the rest is pretty much automatic of course there are always exception to the rules.

My business is very much "who you know"

So i spend a lot of time networking, and setting up with meetings with people

But once you get past that stage, you have to know a lot, otherwise you'll be found out very quickly

ok you need knowledge and i think its vital, but if you know someone who is a big palyer in your specified area or someone woh can help fund you through and get you contacts it helps, becuase, you are using no knowledge there you are using people you know.
