Do You MLK?
I'm just wondering.
As a businessperson in the US, do you observe the Martin Luther King Jr Day?
If yes, why and if no, why not?

Someone may imply that this statement may be prejudice and offensive, as it may imply that those who observe and honor the MLK day, who happen to be mostly African Americans are all welfare recipients.
Is that your position and views?

My interpretation of Gaulkin's post
I obviously can't tell what Gaulkin meant by that post, but my interpretation of it was that he (or she) is on welfare and therefore every day is vacation...
I didn't even think of the possible racial aspect until USAKOA pointed it out.

Moderators,
I think the wisest thing to do is to close this thread before it gets out of hand.
Thanks.

I believed that the comment could have gone either way. I don't believe that everything bad that happens has something to do with race. But anyone that believes race is no longer an issue is delusional.
As for MLK I observe the holiday in the sense that I acknowledge it as a legitimate holiday, and since I'm in college I don't have to attend classes. But it your asking if I work or not on this holiday...no matter what the holiday is work doesn't stop.

I view it as 'prejudice and offensive'.

Nonsense. If you had the intelligence of a gnat, you would know Gaulkin was not referring to himself/herself as being on welfare.
A simple search on Gaulkin's past posts here YE indicate an overwhelming idea that he/she ISN'T on welfare:
Again, evidence shows that Gaulkin was making a clearly prejudice and racially inappropriate comment.
I am calling for the deletion of this thread and Gaulkin's termination from this forum.

If Gaulkin was in fact making a prejudice comment, I would prefer that he validated that. While I do see it as racist, we could be jumping to conclusions and need not be so hasty in the deletion of this thread and Gaulkin's suspension.
We should just get back on subject, and carry it from there.

I have already provided evidence that shows Gaulkin is alledgely not on welfare.

Because of Gaulkin's comment, the discussion per the OP will not continue until this is resolved.

My original idea was to ask a simple question, whether we, as businesspeople, take the time out to observe certain public holidays or we are merely workaholics.
There're are several public holidays such as the Columbus Day, etc, which I don't observe, not in the sense of disrespecting, but just because i just have lots of stuff to do. I personally however recognize and observe the MLK day, but I just don't take off work. I have too much work, just like I am supposed not to work on Sundays but I do it anyway. I however appreciate his contribution to humanity, sacrifice and will always remember his legacy.
It's just funny how we just can't have a civil discussion anymore without making political incorrect comments. But you can pretty much tell who we really are by the words or typing that come out of our mouths/hearts.

Hi CDAllenGroup
I saw that you inferred to me as having less intelligence than a gnat. I don't really appreciate it, but you are certainly allowed to express yourself. Anyway, I had not previously seen the other posts by Gaulkin until you referenced them in a post that followed mine. In light of all the facts, it is apparent there was a subtext to his comment. However, based strictly on his one post, there was no clear indicator of a racist remark. Before you decide to be offended by others comments, maybe you should try not to be offensive with your own.
Thanks again for the gnat reference--quite the compliment. By the way, gnat is spelled with a 'g', not a 'k'. Isn't that an interesting case of irony.
Jon

Yes, it shows that Gaulkin is a BIGOT at heart, and he deserves to be BANNED because of his posting of inappropriate, racially-inclined comments on this public forum.
If the moderators do not ban him, I can only conclude that YE is a place that has a lack of respect for the diversity its users and readers.
