Hi ladies and gents,

I'm putting together a lesson plan and materials for a "free school" class on entrepreneurship and small business. As a part of this I figured it would be great to put together a list of some of the most common questions that come up while planning or starting a small business. I frequently answer questions posted on the forums and will continue to do so but if anyone can come ask a question on my tumblr it will be greatly appreciated! It's easier to keep track of the Q&A and I would like to refer to the question list while compiling course materials.

I have a question.
What is the FIRST step. Say you have an idea, what is the first literal step you take? Is it putting the business plan together, or maybe doing some market research, or networking?

You put the business plan together. The business plan is the research - in competition, what marketing you will do, who you will network with, what the company is about and goals, etc.

Then you follow the plan set out in the business plan.
