I was curious, after reading an idea about promotion, whether participating in forums gets your website infront of viewers or not?
What's your take?
Is it beneficial to participate in a few forums and have a link to your website?
Yes - I am curious.
Sometimes - only if it interests me.
Occasionally - if the user is helpful.
No - I avoid them.

I click on signature links when the person that posted did so in a way that was intelligent and on topic, if it's just some random troll spamming his newest great idea I tend to ignore it and move on.To answer your question I would have to say, Yes it is beneficial as long as you are being productive to the forum.
I look at it (even though some may object to it) as a way of spamming. Technically, even if they post a lot, you have to figure, with each post their signature is posted up as well, and if their advertising their services in their signature, for every post they post up... their posting their services up as well. So in my opinion I don't really pay attention to any of them.
Although somebody is sure to come at me and claim that I was spamming with my website templates, compare the 2 posts I made for my templates to the 50+ posts of commercial promoting signatures.
Just my .02 cents and as I said, I'm sure somebody is going to come at me about it.
once in a while i'll click a sig link if it looks interesting.
I usually check to get an idea who is posting. My favorite users are the ones with the cheesy ad campaigns. "What would you say, if I told you that we have found the perfect home based business? I know, you are probably thinking, 'Yeah right, I have heard that a thousand times before.'" It pretty much never gets better than that.
I've yet to find any site that I come back to regularly on a signature. The best advertising on forums i've seen is actually when a link is given in response - especially as an answer. That's how I discovered dnscoop and other useful online tools. But sigs just don't seem like they do any good.
I will click on it if it is interest me.. especially.. if it sounds mysterious

Selling signature links can rake in a lot of money, some people sell them for around $50/month on forums.digitalpoint.com, I had 1200 posts and sold one of my four links for $175 for a year! You can also buy peoples avatars, location and recent blog on DP.
yes, sig ads are an interesting product because they're an embryonic form of peer reviewed/filtered advertising
PRA ads are considered to have high potential...possibly as much as CPC ads...because this kind of advertising solves several problems which prevent right CTRs and CPMs
Overall, if the PRA concept is developed further I'd bet that advertisers would get higher conversion rates from these kinds of ads as compared to unfiltered/reviewed ads

I only click on signature links if there's only one or two and it's not in bright jumbo lettering.
I do click signature links especially if they are interesting. Also, I try to look at his/her post if it make sense to the topic & if he/she contributes something.
I click on sigs as I like to see what other people on this forum are working on. I've seen a lot of nice sites with excellent content and ideas!
I've had 71 visits to my site so far through the signature here at YE. That's not bad considering the traffic is targeted and I would be on here hanging out and making posts regardless.
