    Exclamation Do You Blog?

I'm often asked by my readers why I don't have a blog and how I personally feel about blogging. Here is what I tell them:

I think blogging can be very advantageous, if you have something to say - and if you're committed to it. So why don't I have a blog? Three reasons:

    1. The Content Management System (CMS) I use is the finest in the world. It gives me all of the SEO advantages of blogging without actually having to blog.

    2. Because of the nature of my business, I deal with a very limited number of clients. This way I can give them ALL the personal attention that they require. In addition, I communicate with all of my clients almost on a daily basis, so there's really no need or reason for me to blog for communication purposes.

    3. My website is actually an article directory, and at the end of each article, there's a place for readers to rank and comment on the articles, just like on a blog.

Do you blog? Feel free to chip in and tell the forum the reasons why you blog, and if it has been beneficial to you.

^^ I agree, with blog 3 things are most effective (and for that reason, blogging is becoming quite a saturated industry):

    1. The Quick Revenue - People believe that making a blog and submitting it to directories is sure to give them some "Sense" revenue. Unfortunately, it takes more then that (as you said Dale, its all about commitment.)

    2. Content is King - A rule that is rarely in some cases followed, content is king and when I say content, I mean to make it something that is understandable yet is effective in teaching something new.

    3. Staying Updated - Just as much as content is king, its always smart to stay freshly up to date on your articles and research. The research you put into an effective article will determine (in my opinion) how successful your blog is.

Just my advice, maybe some more people can build on to the "Blog Strategies" that I listed above.

I've been blogging since 2001 with an original Live Journal membership (freedom4life) and have expanded now to include a Blogger account, a Yahoo! 360 blog and a site specific blog. The reason I see blogs as good for a website or business as it can show proof of existence, demonstrate track record and can also keep site content organized effectively for the least possible investment. Although I have not made a fortune yet with 'ads', I see all the entries I have done to date as Investments for future potential readership. There are, I know, methods to 'make a site popular' however in my experimental journey online I am letting 'digital nature' take its course and see if things blossom naturally.

I previously read your post about 'Media Releases', I hope that Blogs will become like an automatic Media Release and especially with RSS services growing the future looks good.

    Cheers,
    Christian

    Thanks for AIDA

    Thanks, everyone!

usakos, you said that you blog, but you didn't say why you blog or if its been beneficial to you.

Dustin, as always, you made some excellent points - especially about content being King. Thanks for your contribution to this thread.

Christian, you've been blogging for a while now, so you're obviously committed. Keep at it and eventually you'll realize the fruits of your labor. And by the way, you're welcome for AIDA.

syia, yes blogs are hard to maintain. That' why I said you have to be committed.

    Thanks again, everyone!

so, I guess you have to be explicitly detail in everything on here when answering a question. OK, got you. Blogging is an obvious easy way of communicating with your users, partners, investors, etc.

Let's go back to Yahoo! or eBay in older days; well, eBay probably still does that; i haven't check out eBay in years. They used to have a bulletin board for posting everything they were doing, as well as system status and updates, etc., and blogging is basically the same thing, just a fancy bulletin board with widgets and fancy stuff to make it actually look Web 2.0; or in short; cool.

And that's the same reason why we blog.

I am reviving my blog to talk more about my business, it's challenges, lessons learned, exciting news, etc... I think this will help me focus on keeping it up to date. Feel free to check it out (link in sig).

Why do I blog? Just for fun, to express my thoughts. Not really for any business reasons or with anything else in mind. I enjoy receiving emails about things written in my blog though, and discussing my thoughts with people.

The most common misconception. Blog articles are different. Just a quick paragraph with supporting links is all you need.

It's a valuable SEO tool for the most part. People can make money off them but it takes a while.
