Do the Yellow Pages still work?

Many businesses owner I talk to will say the Yellow Pages does not work. It is not that the Yellow Pages do not work it is their message that does not work.

As you look through the Yellow Pages every ad looks the same. You may of heard the term USP what is what makes you different how are you going to stand out from the crowd.

There is a book that says “differentiate or die” which means in order to stay in business you must stand out and look different than anyone else.

I am not sure what you are asking here, are you asking if the paper Yellow Pages help businesses gain more exposure? Or are you asking if the marketing campaigns/strategies have helped businesses with increasing revenue? Or maybe its a completely different question, would you mind clarifying on that?

Do the Yellow Pages work? DO the Yellow Pages work for most businesses? NO!
No matter what type of media you are using you need to stick out from the crowd. You need to understand the art of marketing.

The print yellow pages, I am assuming that's what you are referring to are basically done, for the reasons you stated. The online division for YellowPages is very powerful for B2B marketing. They offer ways to make your business more visible and also give users a more interactive presence, offering videos, reviews and desciptions which would all tell consumers more about your business.

Yes, you do need to stick out from the crowd and offer a Unique Selling Proposition which deciphers you from your competitors. But having a greater online presence will also help offcourse.

Forget about Print Yellow Pages, that stuff is hieroglyphics. Of course they are going to continue to print them for those that don't use the yellow pages on the internet. But for standing out online, I don't really know how one can do that via the internet. The best is to offer great service, market, and get lots of great ratings on Angies List

I think that there are only a handful of categories that still get results from the yellow pages. A lot of businesses are just in it because their competition is.
The print yellow pages are a 20th century medium in a 21st century environment.

I wouldnt say the yellow pages "dont work" anymore HOWEVER I will say that they are not cost-effective.(in my local area at least). the costs are huge to have even a quarter page ad in our yellow pages which I could find many many other more effective avenues of marketing to spend that money on.
