    Smile Developing a new beverage

    Young Entrepreneurs,

I have a new beverage which I would like to design (and later manufacture) What is the first step? Do you hire a nutritionist to develop a prototype of the drink? Or, are there other specialists who may be able to work with me and to develop and fine-tune my drink formula before I begin to produce it?

I want to get started, I'm just not sure the where to start.

Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.

You would normally start with a food scientist, not a nutritionist.

    New product

Hello JR, You might look for a bottling company and bring your drink recipe to them, They'll have connections to other companies that can help with Nutrition facts and labeling requirements.
    Hope this helps

    Forum members,

As of now, I have already located a bottling company, but don't want to approach them without having some type of prototype formula developed. From what I gathered so far, the best approach is to hire a food scientist and begin from there. Does everyone agree that this is a good starting approach or are there other suggestions for getting the actual product off the ground.

    Any suggestions or comments appreciated.

I spoke to these people early last year...they develope, manufacture, label, market, and help set up distribution for what I consider a good price. Good Luck!

I would check with your local university. They most likly have a food science department many of those professors do consulting on the side or they teach on the side. By the way, without giving away your secret, what kind of drink are you developing new beer, soda, fruit drink, energy drink. I have a friend who started a small brewing company and we got successful by offering free samples to all the bars and anyone who would ask. Because it was free samlples the bartenders would charge a really low price and he was able to generate a demand for his brand. I know he nearly spent his inheritance on develping and paying all of my states liquor laws. Good luck.

See if you can find a company that manufacturers drinks or create "private label" drinks. They might be able to create what you're looking for. That is of course if you already have the recipe/ingredients that you want to use.

    Beverge Development

    Hi,

You can listen to a free recording of how exactly to start, develop, bottle, sell and distribute your beverage at the Liquid Brands Management Learning Center (just google it.)

You will see several other free recordings on sales, distribution, and more. Additionally find articles and case studies that will facilitate your decision. When you are ready, we can develop your drink from start to finish.

    Thanks,
