    dedicated hosts

can anybody out there in the YE community recommend a dedicated web hosting solutions provider?

also, with my current virtual webhost, they provide backend services like mysql databases, php/javascript support, email forwarding support, etc. if I go to dedicated, does this mean that I have to interface with a unix terminal prompt and configure the apache serveer myself?

It does depend on whether or not you get a control panel like cpanel with your hosting company. Which control panel are you using right now?

    Thanks,

Hmm - tough to say then. I doubt any dedicated server provider will have a control panel that will do a complete simple migration from your account to the dedicated. You will have to do it manually I think unfortunately.

I've heard good things about Server Matrix and EV1 Servers. I don't have experience with them though.

I would strongly recommend that you check out ServerBeach. You get your own server with your choice of operating system (Windows and a few linux flavours available).

I've used them before and have amazing service from them. Their network is very stable and have forums and toll-free support available. You get full access to the box, and it's a dedicated box... none of this virtual stuff....

You can also get multiple IP addresses, and you can get reverse DNS PTR records set up for your IP addresses.

I should also point out that ServerBeach is a self-managed provider... meaning that you manage your own server, they're available for help if you need it, but it's basically all you. You can install anything you want on the server.

In regards to speed, you can get a 10mbps or 100mbps switch port, I've had a 100mbps port and on the bandwidthplace.com speed test, it shows over 45mbps for internet speed.

I recommend that if you, or anyone, chooses ServerBeach, email sales and ask for a server in the Virginia data centre (best performance).

Main restrictions are: no IRC and no "adult material". Other than that, everything's fair game. They also offer various control panels such as Plesk, Helm, and others.

If you, or anyone, would like to get a good deal, there's two available:
    1. If you order using my referral code, 87WYUPJ5FS, you'll get a $100 credit towards your server. There is NO time limit on this offer.

    2. On select servers (their new Dual AMD MP 2600 line), you can get free setup and 15% off using coupon code SBJLY06. I believe you'd need to order by the end of July in order to get this deal...

If anyone has any other questions about ServerBeach, feel free to ask me.
