    DBA question

Hey guys, I am forming a sole proprietership in GA, and from what I have read from websites I need to file for a DBA as well as a business license, (since the company is not my name) Am I correct in thinking I have to register a DBA? Also who do I register it with, the county clerk or the state department? I called the secratary of state's office, but they had no idea and transfered me to the IRS...

Anyway, any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks!

Look for a website. I know here in PA I can register a business and get the tax id number all online.

every state is slightly different, but for a sole proprietorship it should be as simple as just contacting your state's department of licensing and filing for a business license (can probably be done online). Keep in mind, a sole proprietorship is you dba what business name you choose to file your license under.

You don't need to contact the IRS or anything (unless you have employees, but I pray to God that you won't have employees as a sole proprietor). When you file with the IRS, your SP is called a Schedule C, and its just a simple form that get attached to your personal 1040.

But the question has to be raised....why a sole proprietorship?
