Being a bit old fashion (62yrs old), I find myself being facinated by all the hobby and special interest groups forming on the internet. So much potentialy valuable information right at our fingertips. Potential consumers are dailey giving us more information about what they want than we could possibly hope to gain from any kind of survey. Many of these are simply considered commercialy non viable niches. You can look over the topics and threads and within a few minutes see where the main focus lies. A good many of these niches use products and services not commonly found in our everyday life and they have developed their own sub-cultures who supply the raw materials or products where needed. The passion and commitment of the followers of many of these niches is unmistakable.
I am one of those people who tend to believe that most of us are pretty similar. What we end up doing in life often has a lot to do with how we are exposed to it. We operate on a primal system that tells us if something makes us feel good we want more of it. We don't even have to know why. So logic tells me the key to recruiting someone into a new hobby or venture is to expose them to it in some interactive way that makes them feel good.
There are a lot of ways to make someone feel good. Feeling socialy accepted is a good feeling. Creating something is a good feeling and being recognised and validated are good feelings we often seek in life. I just have to believe that a small marketing firm specializing in exposing people to new products and services could be extemely profitable. Not a no brainer by any means! For the first time in history because of the internet the possibility of something like this now exists. The instructors are out there and available on the internet as are the collectors of the raw materials needed. I would have to imagine that their are millions of people across America that would be spending from $100.00 to $300.00 per month on new hobbies and passions. The key is introducing them to it the right way. Steve
